As some of you may know, part of Legion still plays EvE Online;
We are spread over multiple alliances, some in empire, some on opposite sides of the fence, but we still hold contact through in game channels and help out each other where we can.
Last night, IT alliance, which my corp (DICE) plays part in, happened to write part of eve history and I thought it might be worth sharing this with you.
If you do not want to read through all of this, here is a (biased) TLDR version:
Sunday morning we spotted a mistake our opponents did when they wanted to transfer ownership of a station system to another alliance in their power block.
We took our chances and removed their vulnerable territory control unit and replaced it with our own.
Since this process takes 12hours our enemies had plenty of time to respond and try to take the system from us again. Eventually however we had our timer ticking and Sov would be ours by 4am GMT.
So we prepared, we pulled our alliance fleet into the system and setup the defences, our opponents called their allies and prepared for an attack.
At around 2gmt there were 1300 people in the system, about half of them us , the other half our opponents.
Since our opponents had problems loading the system (to many people to much lag) nothing much happened till we decided to take the the initiative and warp our fleet on top of the enemy.
In the battle that followed we killed 4 enemy titan class vessels ( the biggest and most expensive ship in the game), a combined enemy dread fleet and 2 conventional fleets.
For minimal losses since our enemies still had problem organising themselves and loading the scene properly, we also bombed their subcapital fleet repeatedly using stealth bomber wings, which cost them most of their support.
The video below shows you the Cap fleet battle from the perspective of a revelation pilot on our side.
And i would like to close with , that sometimes its really worth staying up till 5am in the morning staring at a computer game, even if you get old and grumpy over all these years playing.
But lately it seems that I need to keep this tradition alive a bit, I wonder why no one else ever beats me to the finish line ;) But no worries cause I have invested a bit of time again with my dear friend google image search and my other friend Mr Photoshop. As there where complaints in the past about not using our logo I did my best to incorporate it again in this naughty edition.. Yes just admit it you all, you where waiting for it..
Thus with a little delay we from the Legion wish you all a very jolly ]x[mas.
But this wouldn't be totally ]x[like if I didn't have another thing in my sleeve cause this 1 image news post is so standard by now. So just to spike your interest and to keep myself busy I dug up another naughty picture to stay in 'the zone'. So to have it done already so no one will forget and no one will beat me to the point. We all hope your going to have loads of fun no matter which path you will walk to reach that destination, may it be booze, forbidden substances or just copulating ;) as long as you have fun doing it. And we will see you all again in the upcoming year.
We from the Legion wish you all Happy Holidays !!
And Season Greetings to you all!!
The past few days have been very busy for me (ramp) as me and my collegues of i3D were in the process of moving into our own datacenter.
There were a lot (1000+) of servers, quite some unexpected problems and extremely long days , thankfully almost everything is now done.
As a result legionhq was down since tuesday 23:00 till today, wish I could've done it faster, but I'm sure you guys understand paying customer servers had priority.
Now why for the part 1 you might wonder - I have a brand new dell server ready so I can finally get rid of the current 5 year old machine, which is pretty miuch held together with tie-wraps :P
The server->server move should start somewhere next week, however this time, you should not notice a thing of it, well, except things might be a bit faster ;)
So it's been a while since my last news post, especially relating to news worthy World of Warcraft events. Legion as a raiding guild in Burning Crusade failed to spark, the raids seemed uninspiring and unfullfilling, people couldn't muster the enthusiam to even try to attempt them and personally I didn't step into any raid instance during the whole expansion. However with Wrath of the Lich King the drive and fun factor seemed to return to raiding, old members started to log back on and before we knew it we had enough people online to try 25 man encounters. As such it gives me great pleasure to announce that.....
Last weekend Legion finally managed to drop Sartharion with 3 drakes up and in doing so earn the Twilight Vanquisher title. So firstly big congratulations all round to those who were present during the kill but also to those who couldn't make the kill but had put much time and effort into trying it on previous weeks gone by.
At times it seemed as if things just weren't going to go our way, what with the cooldown of rebirth glitching to almost 12 hours.....
Or when on death and trying to corpse run, you'd fall through the world for 10 minutes until all you could see were mysterious floating signs...
But eventually we did manage to succeed!
Now whether the fact that "i pull whole instances when i move" Soly or "it's not my fault i die to void zones, i'm colourblind!" Tanis weren't present, correlated to achieving the kill, I'll let you decide, but it does seem like too much of a coincedence to me.
Anyway in gaining the kill Legion have now officially beaten all current Heroic raid content in WoW as it stands, so we look forward to the new challenges that lay ahead in Ulduar.
Congratulations must also be given to Saybel, much to Biggdogg's disgust, for being the proud owner of our first Twilight Drake.
P.S I'm well aware that the top left picture doesn't display a killshot or celebratory screenshot of KelThuzad's demise, that would be my fault because i completely forgot! ....but at least it does show an awesome shot of a jumping tree, which personally I'd say more than makes up for it!
