Anybody in the beta for this browser game?

Got in via BF:Heroes (all BF:Heroes accounts got an invite), and it seems like a nice mix of Age of Empires, Settlers and even (worst of all) Planetarion. You can choose to play more peacefully by not building a castle, but this will still leave you open to plunder attacks (enemies trying to steal your ressources), but you can't be conquered or assaulted. You can build new cities instead of conquering them, so there is always a way without risking too much or having to go to war.

The graphics are really nice for a browser game, and it's a big improvement over the pure text based games. A lot stuff is still being developed, they are looking to implement quests and other stuff that is not based on player vs. player interaction. But of course you can always choose to go war and build a castle, which enables you to attack others and be attacked. This also means you can loose the city where you built a castle.

Overall very fun game with some fun people and due to a building queue, you don't even have to monitor it too much.

Would like to see some more Legion members around :-)

Cera, both on Server 1 and 2.

Looks like you are both on the same continent (4xx:1xx), so you can easily trade with each other. On Server 2 my city is still building up, but if I get a chance I can see if I can send you some ressources.

to send a msg via chat you can use /w <name> btw

Some general advice:
- build speed is really important later, currently I am at ~1200%
- Don't overestimate the value of resources, 25% is not that much
- rather plan ahead for Saw Mills and Stonemasons, but each quarry or woodcutter only gets the bonus from one of these (but from multiple cottages!)
- don't invest too much into iron or food in the beginning, it will become important later on, but for the first few days wood and stone are much more important (both of them more or less equally)
- don't build a castle too soon :-)

can you have one city with a castle, and one without? and thus only be able to loose on the one with castle?

Yes, most people have some specialized resource cities later on without a castle. You can still be plundered without a castle though, but this is only a one turn attack, mainly focused on resource stealing.

It's open beta now and they added a lot of stuff:

- quests (rocks!)
- shop (not really important items there yet)
- items (from shop or quests, maybe even dungeons)
- new towers
- chat filter (no idea hot to turn that off yet)

Questions:

Have you setup an Alliance yet?
Is there a world map? (not region map.. finding it hard to see how big the world is).

Choco: yes they do, they increase production for all 8 fields around them.
Sc0rpio: no Legion alliance around yet

For the world map, the continents are set up in a matrix like this:

Each number stands for your town coords. E.g. your town coords are 231:345, this means you are in continent 23 (2xx:3yy). 135:78 means continent 1 (1xx:yy), etc.

You can think of every continent as a cluster, and all the towns really close to you as a galaxy. Traveling from one continent to another requires ships (frigates for troops) and a long time.

edit: just checked, it seems you are all located on continent 51, so it should be easy for you to help each other or trade!

I dont know when the real game is starting but , so far it's a game I see my self playing. IF we can make a Legion alliance and be all on the same server/continent.

I never really play that kind of game before, what can we expect in long term of playing ? Alot of strategies ? Politics ?

I'll personally never have time to metagame every again, but who knows? I'm sure we still have guys able and willing. Doubt it'll ever be a PA hayday kind of thing though. So far, the game doesn't seem particularly designed for that sort of thing. Travel times are a bitch.

I think politics will be really important, not as much as in PA days, but that's also a good thing ;-)
They will not reset the current worlds, but add new worlds over time, so when they add a new server, maybe we can all try to start together, but getting all on the same continent is really a problem for alliances in this game.

On Server 1 the alliance I'm in (Top 10) is currently trying to focus on one continent and make this a stronghold, so that everyone is creating a new city there if they don't have one yet.

So whats the deal here. I am currently at 2400 wood per hour, 1400 stone etc etc. Can only find level 1 dungeons to raid. got 3 days before Im open to attack...what should I concentrate on. Not in an alliance. Town Hall is 7, Moonglow tower is 5. Not sure what to do next lol

Don't build a castle until you are sure you can protect yourself (and get a second city asap).
In order to get a second city, you need monnstones (50k from each resource, can be build in a lvl 10 Moonglow tower). Next you'll need a lvl 10 temple to recruit a baron.

After that you can decide to found a new city (from scractch, you can decide where and you don't need a castle for that) or to conquer another city (you'll need a castle and the new city will keep the castle as well).

In the beginning I would go the peaceful way, so you have at least 1 or 2 cities you can fall back if your main city is being conquered. Also make sure you have at least one city close to the water, so you can get trade and war ships.

There is also a really nice tool to plan city layouts, I use this all the time:

A normal city for me has these stats when maxed out:
20-25k wood/hour
18-23k stone/hour
5-8k iron/hour
5-8k food/hour
1500-1800% construction speed
3-4 markets
2-3 harbors
4-5 Townhouses

Later on some specialized resource cities make sense. This my main city on Server2, new ones are better already:

Once cottages get to lvl 5 they contribute the same % as resource fields, so would we all be better off getting rid of resource fields once we are lvl 5+ on cottages?

redid a lot of my city. up to 4700 wood 3300 stone atm. But using it all as soon as I get it upgrading stuff lol.
