I don't often get a chance to wax intellectual and flame someone at the same time! This is historic!

Wait...did he initially post his app for the WoW division as well...? That takes some serious chutzpah, my friend. o.O

Now, he hasnt that I am aware of, however he did state that he came across VtS in the mannoroth forums while browsing for a guild to join.

However, you *can* be a part of legion's community without being in a given game, its his very presence as one of us that I oppose, regardless of what game he may or may not play.

Its not your perception of reality that's warped, its your perception of a simple online gaming community. I fucking hate history and I STILL knew wtf the theme for VtS was ever since the killed WaC 5 (?) years ago.

Anyway, I havent laughed that hard in a long time. Thank you for posting that first post in this thread. I am now chuckling sporadically for no reason.... kinda like the hiccups.

And what thread have you been reading? I've acknowledged what many of you have clarified for me, that your symbol is indeed derived from ancient Rome. I only say that regardless of intent, one has always to be aware of the multiple connotations of each symbol, Nazism being on of them for that which you chose
You may want to extend your protest to every eagle icon you see.

Or perhaps grow a thicker skin. This world will never be as politically correct as the most sensitive common denominator.

As Denis Leary sums up: "Life is hard. Get a fucking helmet."

heh it was a pretty innocent question, albeit naive, there's no reason for a flame war or to cause un neccessary grief. Well not much anyway ;p

But Gravitas as has been said many times now, the guild and its logo are all originated upon roman themes. The guild/community has been ever present in games around the world for 5 years + now and i think this is the first time anyone has ever come to this assumption. So at least congrats upon making, asking and creating an original thread and giving me a chuckle.

/me salutes

I missed good quality drama because I was using my european timezone hack to sleep

what I find most amusing about this thread, and some parts of history in general, is that the desired effect of nazi propaganda still rings true in the future.

50 years ago, a national socialistic party decided to "borrow" symbolism from other civilizations in a gest to make their own look "superior".

In most cases, we do not remember the old civilization or culture that used those symbols (the swastica for example) but only their more modern implication.

anyway, the eagle nowadays is more associated with the USA then with any other culture, I truly dont understand why you would link it to the use of it by Axis forces in the second world war. You do realize, the americans were using their eagle aswell by this time?.

As someone put it down in big words which it is too early for me to comprehend fully due to a severe lack of cafeine;

You had an answer, and you were looking for the question, yet formulated it as a question.

That is what we call prejudice and guardian behaviour.

The style of its portrayal (check the picture in the OP).

I had a suspicion, not an answer. How many times must I explain this?

I would suggest looking up American naval uniform tags during the 44-45 period ;)

don't feed the trolls. And never argue with idiots like this - they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience...
No matter what we say, he will prolly never get it, he lacks the education and prolly even the intelligence to know enough about some real history lessons (e.g. roman empire).

Anywho, thanks for making my time at work far more interesting than it otherwise would have been.

You've got your answer, however, as well as the immediate ire of much of our community. I hope your inquiry was worth it, though I would counsel doing more research before asking such inflammatory questions in the future, wherever you go in life.

We wish you luck on your search for a guild elsewhere.

The watcher.

Now, before I say anything, bear in mind that I'm not "taking sides in this ..erm..discussion".

Honestly, if you take away any fore-knowledge of our Guilds history or beliefes or basis, I can see where the OP actually might feel the need to ask the question he did. To be completely honest, I thought it was a Nazi symbol clevery adapted when I first joined Legion. Of course, before I made myself to look a bit foolish, I did a bit of research and discovered the true basis of this Guild. Needless to say, I was absolutely proud of who Legion were and what they represented, and terrifically glad that my fears were unfounded.

But again, like I stated earlier, I can see where the OP might have gotten the notion, and my kudos to him for having that large set of testicles he has to ask the possibly-offensive question he did.
